The Justice & Racial Reconciliation Team was formed in 2016. If J&RR is to be a vibrant part of BelPres for the next ten years we need Leaders. The goal is to have three to four members of the Leadership Team, each serving a three year term, with staggered term ending dates. We need both continuity and fresh voices.
We know you are on this mailing list because you have a heart for racial justice. What is the Holy Spirit saying to you about how to put your heart concern into action? Might you be called to help lead our J&RR Team? It is not hard, and in fact it is fun, engaging, and filled with meaning and an opportunity for your own spiritual growth. It does require commitment to the team, to the BelPres mission, and to prayerfully asking God to guide us toward his good purpose. Please consider applying to be on the Leadership Team. June will find us with only two members, each with one year left to serve. We need you or someone you might encourage to step up to the challenge.
For ten years the team has worked to educate the congregation about our nation's history of racial oppression and discrimination to better understand systemic racism today and opportunities to bring God's biblical justice to places of pain and exploitation. The team has sponsored workshops, storytelling from BelPres members, book and movie studies and discussion. The team has supported the Discipleship framework outlined in 2022, and specifically the call to be healers of racial injustice.
This year the Leadership Team has moved our focus from education to action. We have highlighted healing of injustice in our schools and communities. Leadership is currently working with Anthony Ballard to determine how J&RR can support and collaborate with the Unleashed Projects to partner and participate with our church community to be healers of racial injustice.
