The month of May is officially designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. We invite you to explore some local history through the University of Washington Libraries South Asian Oral History Project (SAOHP). This project records pan-South Asian immigrant experiences in the Pacific Northwest.

  • UW South Asian Oral History Project: Find out more about the project and access the complete library of interviews.
  • SAOHP Project Overview: Watch this 15-minute video for an overview of the project and snippets of some of the oral history interviews.
  • Roots & Reflections: South Asians in the Pacific Northwest by Amy Bhatt and Nalini Iyer. Historians from the SAOHP share the stories of immigrants from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka to show how South Asian immigrant experiences were shaped by region and how they differed over time and across generations.
